Federalism-

Ok so federalism is kind of like cake if you think about it. Cake is divided into three layers like the government, or its divided into many levels. The government is consisted of local, state, and national levels. Federalism is located in Article IV of the Texas constitution.

Popular Sovereignty-

So Popular Sovereignty is all about us, the people. The people basically run the government, we control who is in and vote on important decisions. Without the people, the government would also rule everything. Popular Sovereignty is located in Article VII of the Texas constitution.

Separation of Powers-

The U.S. government is like a tree, divided into branches. Without it being divided all the power would go to one person. One person should not have all that power. If one person had all that power they could do whatever they want. The government needs to keep in check so they will not go out of control. Separation of Powers is located in Articles I, II, and III of the Texas constitution.

Republicanism-

The U.S. values Republicanism. We vote in and out leaders. The U.S. is the idea of a republic. The people are in control as much as the government is. We should hold on to Republicanism for the future of the U.S. Republicanism is located in the Article IV of the Texas constitution.

Checks and Balances-
The U.S. government is like a 3-legged stool. If one leg doesn't do its part, the whole thing falls apart. Checks and Balances keeps the whole government together. Also, without Checks and Balances one branch would rule the other two. Checks and Balances is located in Articles I, II, and III of the Texas constitution.
Individual Rights-
I think Individual Rights is a very important right. It lets people do what they do, express themselves. Without this right, the country would have near complete control over everyone. Individual Rights is located in the Bill of Rights.

Limited Government-

Limited Government is kind of like money, the less you have the happier you are. When there is little government, things will go by faster, and the citizens will be able to agree on more things. When there's a lot of government, it takes forever to agree on things. When there's a limited amount of people, there could be order. Limited Government is found in Article I of the Texas constitution.

  2. Great points KARLA!!!!! Guys this is not like the movie Forest Gump, " You know life is like a box of popular sovereignty, ya never know whatcha gonna get." However, I DO like the metaphors and analogies but only AFTER you clearly define the principle,

Still 10x better then the last couple of days!!!!

  3. I really liked how you had a metaphor for each principle. I think that will help others understand these difficult concepts! (Mrs. Bolles)

I can't wait to talk with you all about the principles of the US Constitution next year! It looks like you have a pretty good understanding of them already!

  7. In describing the articles you did not sound confident about your topics. You might consider fixing how you start the facts to appeal to the people who are reading-(Gabi, Brent, Damon, Ben)

  13. How would changing the rules of popular sovereignty affect republicanism, and how representatives are acquired.-(Damon)

  14. Well Damon, if popular sovereignty was changed say to where the people no longer had a say and couldn't mold the government to our liking it would change republicanism by the the fact that we no longer have representatives for our ideas and they would only rep. the ideas of our states gov. without our consent.
